Re: Are you more or less kind than the people around you?
Thu, March 15, 2007 - 6:24 PMI'd like to think I'm a lot kinder than most of the people I put up with, day to day.
I make it a point to ask, "How are you doing?" and I mean it.
And They 'cry on my shoulder'.
I get to hear all the terrible trials and the brags and all the hottest gossip -all the good stuff - see ALL the photos of the new grandbaby - just because I listen and I care. These are people and I'm a people, too. Let's share!
I give these ordinary people a reason to smile because they're not ordinary anymore - somebody cares and listens.
I like doing it, it's part of my religion.
If I can take One Step Closer. -

Re: Are you more or less kind than the people around you?
Thu, March 15, 2007 - 10:14 PMam i more or less kind than WHICH people around me? and UNDER WHAT VARYING CIRCUMSTANCES? and!...*which types and manifestations of kindness are we talking about*? are we talking about kindness in itself (benevolent intention) or that plus courage? etc.! etc.!
but, other than to answer the question with several more probing questions, i'd rather just do my conscience & leave it at that than waste time comparing myself to others. -

Re: Are you more or less kind than the people around you?
Fri, March 16, 2007 - 9:20 AMFor the most part, I try to be kind as I can. As a general rule of thumb, I treat fellow human beings the way I would want to be treated. I look people in the eye and smile when I pass them, I let people with one item go ahead of me in the supermarket line, I stop for pedestrians in the crosswalks, etc. There is so much anger and hostility in our world today, so if I can I try to bring some kindness and compassion into my experiences, I will.
But dear lord are there times when I want to smack the shit out of some people.

Re: Are you more or less kind than the people around you?
Fri, March 16, 2007 - 5:56 PMHolden, I agree with you. Go ahead and ask several probing questions. I dare you.
I like the way you think.
I compare me with the me I am and the me I want to be and the me I was. Do I see improvement or just change?
'Nice' is a state of mind, IMHO.

Re: Are you more or less kind than the people around you?
Fri, March 16, 2007 - 10:47 AMif kindness is jumping in to tell about your better, more outrageous, and more successful (or more disastrous, depending on the situation) when someone tells about a personal story about their recent experience... then i am not kinder than the people around me
if kindness is posting photos of women in tight dresses all over your office and then asking women to come into your office for every discussion... then i am not kinder than the people around me
if kindness is ignoring frequent requests for more information, but then remembering to say "but i am always available, please.. more questions are better than not, just ask me" when management walks into the area... then i am not kinder than the people around me
if kindness is accurately remembering everything you did right yesterday ("I came to your office and told you about that... well, i came to your office and oyu weren't here, and then Ted started telling me about the new turkey deep fryer he bought which reminded me that i am going to my brothers for Easter next month and I gotta remember to make sure I get my car detailed before we visit so I had to call my wife to have her set itup because her co-workers son will do it cheaply if we give him advance notice and we clean and wash the car before we take it to him... anyway, I went to your office!!!!") but didn't bother to email, leave a voicemail, or follow through and actually tell me the information that I needed YESTERDAY, then I am not kinder than those around me

Re: Are you more or less kind than the people around you?
Fri, March 16, 2007 - 8:04 PMMuch, much less kind. I often leave tacks on the seats of unsuspecting innocents. I sometimes use glue on the handsets of telephones so that the unsuspecting with be stuck. Once, I threw a banana cream pie at a nun.
She caught it, though, and served it to a group of orphans. D'oh. I believe I was forgiven, and have to start all over again. -

I currently am surrounded b an extremely caring and giving community, and it's often shocking how kind they can be. I think I am just barely keeping up with their kindness!
But compared to the general population, I am kinder. I'm what people call a "giver". It makes me happy to make other people happy.
