Do you blog, and if you do, do you have a method?
Do you type it offline then post it online?
Do you edit things and let them sit a couple of days before you post?
Do you write some things that will never make it to a public blog?
How honest are you?
Do you ever worry you'll put yourself out there and then people will judge you?
How do you decide what is for "friends only?"
How much time do you spend blogging each day?
How does blogging affect your life - do you read blogs more than you used to read other things?
Do blogs matter to you?
Do you think they are a "phase" or are they here to stay?

Re: Do you blog? What is your "blog style," your method?
Fri, February 16, 2007 - 7:37 PMi hardly blog at all. thus far i've only used the blog module on my Tribe profile page as a convenient place to put links to frequently visited sites, plus i have one story from almost a year ago. -

Re: Do you blog? What is your "blog style," your method?
Fri, February 16, 2007 - 10:29 PMI just started to blog. I was afraid to. It seems so permanent. But I've had lots of comments on my first two and it is easier than running long threads that get trolled. So I think I'll keep going ...I came to tribe to get knowledge but found that most serious discussions get sidetracked fast ...this keeps the conversation focused....

Yes I do.
Do you blog, and if you do, do you have a method?

Do you edit things and let them sit a couple of days before you post?
No. There and then. In the moment.
Do you write some things that will never make it to a public blog?
I'll edit as I type it in. And I might go back and re-edit to fix typo's
How honest are you?
Very
Do you ever worry you'll put yourself out there and then people will judge you?
They judge me for who I am proud to be

They're a phase, and will transform into something else. The organization of them seems to be quite lacking.

Re: Do you blog? What is your "blog style," your method?
Sat, February 17, 2007 - 10:08 AMWow, now that's a load of questions!
Yes, I blog although I only lost my blog virginity a short time ago. So far I post them online and they are just whatever is on my mind lately. I do keep it private and for friends only but not because I'm worried about anyone seeing it, more because those type of moments are supposed to be with friends.
People are going to judge you no matter what you do so I am very honest. If you make everyone happy something is VERY wrong with you!
I'm blogging about twice a week and do find it addictive in a weird, exhibitionistic, therapeutic kind of way.
And yep, I think they are here to stay. A modern version of a diary/journal with just another medium. And its great for people to put their thoughts down even if for only their own consideration. -

Re: Do you blog? What is your "blog style," your method?
Sat, February 17, 2007 - 12:37 PMDo you blog, and if you do, do you have a method?
Spontaneous. Get ideas and go. Kind of therapeutic for me as well.
Do you type it offline then post it online? - No.
Do you edit things and let them sit a couple of days before you post? - No
Do you write some things that will never make it to a public blog? - No. My blog is public.
How honest are you? Totally 100%.
Do you ever worry you'll put yourself out there and then people will judge you?
I always put myself out there & don't worry about what people think. People are either friendly or their not. If someone thinks negative about me there's not much I can do about it.
How do you decide what is for "friends only?" - Nothing on my blog is.
How much time do you spend blogging each day? - Hardly any time. Initially I had started a blog 2 or 3 times and always thought it was kind of pompous and self centered. I never want to seem like I'm so self involved or full of myself. (same thing) I don't want to come off as self righteous and/or arrogant. But now I see it doesnt have to be approached that way by myself, or others. I hardly look at other peoples blogs either. Now I do a little more from time to time just out of curiosity.
How does blogging affect your life - do you read blogs more than you used to read other things? - It doesnt affect my life really. It gives me a glimpse of aspects or sides of people I would never see if the person didnt write what they wrote. I don't read blogs that much so no not more than other things.
Do blogs matter to you? - Yes. To a certain extent. My own as well as other peoples. I believe they should be important. Sometimes it can be fun to joke around or to see other people joke around but when it seems meaningless I stop paying attention. If it doesnt speak to me in some way I find myself asking why I am wasting my time reading it. Not just speak to me about myself but about the person. Some blogs I have read I honestly think the person is so full of shit I just get to a point I don't care to read anymore. That doesnt mean they arent important. Just not to me.
Do you think they are a "phase" or are they here to stay? - Most definitely here to stay. They are like diaries that people like sharing with others. They can tell us alot about ourselves as well as others. Hmm. Maybe I am starting to like them a little more now. lol

Re: Do you blog? What is your "blog style," your method?
Wed, February 21, 2007 - 2:24 PMI guess my method be mostly venting and then getting introspective by the time I calm down.
I usually try to blog at least a few times each week, I don't know if I have the creative energy to blog daily. No probably not.
I think blogs are here to stay. There's so ingrained in our culture now.
Blogs matter to me because it is a great way to see how the world thinks, and especially to keep in touch with my friends online.

Re: Do you blog? What is your "blog style," your method?
Wed, February 21, 2007 - 5:10 PMI blog much more than I post in the tribes. Sort of a rambling, whatever-is-happening-in-my-head kind of babble. I love the comments from friends in the peanut gallery, but I mainly write just to see what will come out when I start pushing buttons while thinking.
I do tend to go back and clean up the spelling and punctuation. I tend to think in words rather than images, so typos have that odd nails-on-chalkboard effect on me. It's like listening to music that's just slightly off-key. lol Probably why I don't post in tribes, now that I think about it; I can't edit. (and the shy thing. always that.) -

Re: Do you blog? What is your "blog style," your method?
Wed, February 21, 2007 - 5:31 PMi admire and appreciate people who can be so personal in their blogs. i am nearly pathalogically shy. if i think about what i am writing it is very difficult for me to reveal myself to others. so there is little personal information in my blog unlessss you already know me and know what to look for. in just posting, i don't think to much about it-obviously- so it is just top of my head what comes out. because of tjhat, i reveal alot more of myself in just an average post. and in pm s it is one on one so that is a lot more revealing for me. if i write more thatn one or two scentences about myself in a pm, it is a big level of trust for me.

Sun, February 25, 2007 - 10:32 AMnope, I don't blog. I feel it's a bit to personal, and I didn't get a dinner out of it,
I've seen quite a few people messed with. I prefer my battles face to face. -

Re: Do you blog? What is your "blog style," your method?
Mon, March 5, 2007 - 10:02 AMI like blogging.
I used to obsessively keep journals...so blogging has sorta replaced that.
I frequently post my dreams and mundane stuff that is of little to no interest to most people..which is what i used to write in my journals. -

Re: Do you blog? What is your "blog style," your method? - Part One - Answers
Thu, March 22, 2007 - 6:38 AMI'm a blog addict. I blog at dcmetrorider.vox.com and quite a lot here on Tribe, because it's my favorite of the social networking sites. I began blogging in 1998 with Opendiary.com and am still a member. I've also dabbled in Typepad, LiveJournal and Blogger.
I enjoy a freeform, whatever-comes-to-mind rant kind of style, but I'm also very big on writing entries as short scraps of thoughts, in list format, and with questions at the end of my entries to draw readers' feedback and encourage discussion, which, in turn, stimulates more blogging on my part. I see a blog as an ongoing conversation recorded for posterity. I enjoy adding images from the Web or photos I've taken to illustrate my entries.
I usually type my entries straight online, unless I am in a situation where what I am writing about is very private (as applies to my surroundings anyway and not when posted online - odd contradiction), or where I do not have Internet access. When I am without a computer, I often journal, and I have been trying to find a viable way to take these scribbled pages, scan them and upload them for a kind of "mixed media" type of blog. So far, I've only had minimal luck in doing a bit of research but nothing I have tried or found useful.
I never let anything sit, but I'm constantly making notes and saving websites and article links onto my social bookmarking list and tagging them "blogabout," so I can call them up later when I'm much less busy and can reference them. I usually edit after the fact, days down the road, or minutes after I post, if I notice a grammatical error; but I try not to change the tone of what I've written, otherwise, I think it loses the value of the moment in which it was written.
I write a few things here and there in a Moleskine journal I keep on me. I'm always thinking, always writing. It seems that I'd go nuts if I could not record the information flow, either in a blank book or online. I would blog about (almost) everything I wrote down, if there were more time in the days. But I end up keeping a lot of penned thoughts in journals, because there is no time to get it all down and posted online, or because the moment passes, and the topics become not as timely - and another topic becomes interesting. I like to be a spectator of life - I eavesdrop on people's conversations and actions in public places, blog about books I read, ideas I get from the things I read, my travels, etc.
I'm honest as I can be at that given moment, maybe sometimes TOO honest. I've often shuddered when I looked back and realized I should not have written about something so blatantly, especially online. Even though I know I should probably not blog at all, with privacy being what it is (or isn't) these days, I am compelled by my very nature (ENFP) to blog, to share my stories with the world, a kind of textual exhibitionism in which I revel. I have an awful lot of friends reading my blog, so I leave out a lot of things I might otherwise write about, like personal romance and dating topics, because one of the people reading it might be that person. I hate having to hold back things, but some circumstances dictate that I do.
I know people may judge me, but I know I'm making the choice to open myself up to that, and I accept that.
"Friends only" entries only are for when I complain about a job, write about controversional topics that are a bit too personal like sexuality.
I probably blog about two hours per day on weekdays, maybe more per day on weekends.
I blog as an outlet, a means of creative expression, but I do not really read too many blogs. I might, if I had more time. I monitor, analyze and assess blogs and other nontraditional media as part of my job, however. So, in the course of that, I do peruse them.
I believe blogging has really changed my life. It's kind of exciting and a step above journaling where I first began putting my thoughts down when I was a child. But, with blogging, you have an "audience," even if only a couple of readers, who will read your perspective, what happened to you during your day, etc. and maybe It feels to me like I am writing for a purpose. I am still writing for me, but it motivates me to write more frequently, which, in turn, helps me to hone the craft of writing, which is so dear to me. Often, blogging helps me to get my thoughts in order and think out an issue more clearly. It is beneficial in many ways. I've even met people through blogs - in particular, a British gal who read my blog for years, and when she came across the Big Pond to see her American boyfriend, we met up and all went to a comedy club.

Re: Do you blog? What is your "blog style," your method? - Part Two
Thu, March 22, 2007 - 6:46 AMSorry, I had a lot to say on blogging, so it took two postings to get it all out : )
I believe blogs are here to stay.
Like I said, I began blogging in 1998, and I, like everyone else who keeps an eye on the blogosphere, have seen blogging change immensely, especially with the tools available to us. Anyone, with the most minimal amount of technical knowlege and an opinion can blog, and the rapidly growing number of blogs over the past few years supports how popular this medium is. I'm sure blogs will continue to merge with other services as technology and society change around them, and they will become ever more about moblogging or "mobile blogging" as mobile technology gets better and the advanced intricacies of it move from where it is already ahead of its time in Asia and hit the States more fully.
I am excited to see and be part of the the future of blogging.

Re: Do you blog? What is your "blog style," your method?
Thu, March 29, 2007 - 10:27 AMI tend to blog on a hit and miss basis. I am not very regular at my posts, but I enjoy the occasional rant or sharing thoughts and feelings with others. I think I am very honest and never worry about people judging me. I think if they are judging me they have a problem. I don't think blogging is esential to my life, but I do find it relaxing and sometimes it is very therapudic after a hard day.
